Rochester Hotels Weblog / Puerto Madero Buenos Aires - Frigate Sarmiento

Built in England with the aim of fulfilling the role of a school ship for the argentine navy. It was the first Nautical School in the country, pioneer in naval education and training of the argentine youth.

The Frigate President Sarmiento, was named this way because it was created during the presidency of Sarmiento and it was he who authorized the foundation (in 1872) of this prestigious school and the a magnificent, modern warship. The frigate made 39 trips around the world, always on peace missions.

On June 12, 1962 it was declared a National Historic Monument and on May 22, 1964 was turned into a Museum. It can be visited from Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm at Dike 3, in Puerto Madero, where it is tied up.

Inside you can see and appreciate photographs of students, of the different trips, a stone of the Chinese Wall and an argentine flag made in Shanghai, with the sun of almond-shaped eyes, among many other objects, souvenirs and memories.
