In an act of good faith a policeman from Salta returned $350.000 to its owner

Post May 30, 2009 - Classified News about Buenos Aires, Rochester

On May 7th of this year, Francisco Solano Dávalos, police officer from Salta, who works as a security guard on the parking lot of a supermarket in Salta, married and father of eight kids, found a wallet with 50.000 pesos in cash and a check for $300.00. The first reaction was to search for documentation and then he informed the authorities of the supermarket.

The woman, owner of the handbag with money, returned to the grocery store two hours later, when Dàvalos saw her he reassured the woman by telling her that he had found what she had lost. The woman gave him $100 in reward, which, at first the police officer refused to accept, arguing that the only thing he did is his work and fulfill his duty as a policeman.

This honorable act by Mr. Francisco Solano Dávalos, was unknown until the supermarket manager, Ricardo Oviedo, informed the chief of infantry, Néstor Picolo, about what had happened. Dávalos received a recognition by the Secretary of Security from Salta.

Events like this, where you can clearly see the honesty, dignity and good faith of the policeman Dávalos, are cases that should be taken as examples, be recognized and highlighted in this society in which these values are being forgotten. Rochester Hotel Supports these attitudes and promotes them as well, that is why it has given the Dávalos family a free stay at its Buenos Aires Hotels, from Friday May 29th to Sunday May 31st, to recognize and congratulate this admirable behaviour.

Influenza

Post May 22, 2009 - Classified News about Buenos Aires

Another victim of the H1N1 Virus or Swine Influenza is the International Tourism, as tourists from all over the world are afraid to become infected, thus they do not want to get on a plane. Consequently, the sale of tickets is declining.

Although the World Tourism Organization says that there is no reason to restrict trips and flights because the risk is much lower than what was expected, some countries such as the United States, France, Belgium, United Kingdom and Germany banned flights to and from Mexico. Regarding Argentina, initially it had taken the same measures that these countries, but now the restrictions have been lifted.

Therefore, on Wednesday May 20th , the first 153 passengers arrived from Mexico at the Ezeiza International Airport. It was decided to make passengers arriving from Mexico, Canada and United States undergo a double-control process.

Dengue Fever

Post April 30, 2009 - Classified News about Buenos Aires

The Dengue Mosquito is characterized for being dark, with white ringed stripes on its body and for being active during the day. It reproduces in humid, cool, shaded places, where the female is able deposit 100 eggs in containers of stagnant water.
Today we are all exposed to this disease due to a lack of caution and therefore this insect and the dengue fever it transmits have been spread. The virus is transmitted only through the bite of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, not between people and to realize whether you are infected or not you must pay attention to muscle aches, yellowing of the skin, fever and vomiting.

The spread of the disease and the reproduction of dengue mosquitoes are increasingly accelerating, so it is very important to be aware and take the necessary precautions. Though it is a confirmed fact that the dengue fever is not originated at the Federal Capital but on the suburbs and bordering countries instead, it is time people become aware and thus do something to stop this. The numbers of infected people in the country have already reached the 10,000 victims.

Some things to prevent dengue breeding are:

  • Do not leave containers with stagnant water inside or outside the house,
  • Renew water in flower vases,
  • Throw all useless objects where water may accumulate such as cans, bottles, tires, toys, among others,
  • Put upside down containers that are not used such as buckets, bottles, pots,
  • Cover the containres which are used to store water,
  • Pierce, break, cruch or put sand to containers which are potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes,
  • Maintain clean gutters and storm drains in the house,
  • Use spray, cream or liquid mosquito repellent,
  • Use spirals, liquids or pills repellent for mosquitoes,
  • Place mosquito nets in the house.
