Tango Buenos AiresPost May 8, 2009 - Classified History and Culture of Buenos Aires, Knowing Buenos Aires Tango is one of the strongest customs of the inhabitants of Buenos Aires, it is considered a way of living, to live with enthusiasm, passion, fighting for what you desire. Buenos Aires is known as the capital of Tango, where this music style, recognized and admired worldwide, was born around 1880. Tango had its origins in the suburbs of the City, it emerged as a popular dance, typical of the suburbs and not everyone dared to dance it. The upper classes were forbidden to listen, dance or even talk about it, because it was considered a vulgar and grotesque dance. It was quite an adventure full of adrenaline and top secret to go down to the suburbs to the Tango Houses. The lyrics relate the most heartbreaking and beautiful love stories of forbidden love, fights between men for a lady, victories, defeats, joys. The melodies are characterized for using wind instruments like flute and clarinet, violin, piano, orchestra and most important, the bandoneon. Gradually the Tango started infiltrating in the different social classes, to leave the suburbs and become known throughout the wolrd. It was not easy but it managed to turn into the protagonist in prestigious dance halls of Paris, be accepted in major world capitals, but it also found barriers as there where some who banned it and deemed as indecent, such as the Kaiser and Pope Pius X. An emblematic musical style, which found many obstacle, faced triumphs and falls, but eventually came to be recognized and respected internationally, captivating different societies with its passionate and energetic dancing. Today the Golden Decade, time of lust and slpendor of Tango in Europe, is remembered with melancholy, but with pride to say that Tango is a real tradition in Buenos Aires and a worldwide attraction.
