Tango was born in the suburbs of Buenos Aires City, in an improvised way, as a dance of strong , courageous and powerful men. Women who dared to dance it were not well seen by the rest of society, who also considered Tango as an unworthy dance. As consequence of the rejection of the majority of the society Tango had to overcome several barriers and prohibitions.

May Avenue

Post May 27, 2009 - Classified History and Culture of Buenos Aires, Knowing Buenos Aires

This Avenue is an avenue of great historical and cultural value, where great social and political events were carried out as well as celebrations of national and patriotic dates, as it links the Casa Rosada and Plaza de Mayo with the Congress and the Plaza de los Congresos. That is s why it is also a forced way for presidents and officials of the country.

May Avenue was the first avenue of the Republic and of South America, declared in 1997, by the Executive Power, National Historic Place, this means that its structure and facades of buildings cannot be altered in any way and there are some advertisements that cannot be exposed.

Here you can see, know and remember the history of the City and particularly the prosperity of Argentina through the twentieth century. It has a Spanish style and it is surrounded by theaters, cafes, antique houses and buildings of great historical, cultural and political value as the Tortoni Cafe, Colon Theater and the Cabildo.

Finally, below the Plaza runs from December of 1913 the first subway in the Southern Hemisphere , the Line A of the subway of Buenos Aires. The subway still keeps the old and original wooden wagons and Peru station remains unchanged, you will also see at this station several old elements. In the photograph you can see the National Congress and part of the Plaza de los dos Congresos, where May Avenue ends.

The large accordeon

Post May 22, 2009 - Classified History and Culture of Buenos Aires, Knowing Buenos Aires

The large accordeon was created in Germany by the German Heinrich Band, as an instrument for the Church. It arrived in Argentina in 1900 and it has been an undisputed and irreplaceable partner of Tango since then, becoming the main instrument in Tango orchestras, as it gives the strength and the characteristic sound of this dance.

bandoneonn.jpg

It is a wind instrument and it is not easy to play it as the button panel can be very disorganized and difficult to understand at first, and what is more, each button has a particular sound when the accordeon opens and another when it closes. But it is clear that wihtout it the Tango would not be the same.

The relationship between the instrument and Tango is so close and has streghten so much throughout history, that the Tango has dedicated several of his songs to his faithful friend. Today this large accordeon is manufactured worldwide.
