Ladies and Gentlemen, I present myself: My name is Roberto Hornos, I am argentinian, native of Buenos Aires, ”mate” drinker and football player, but above all -and that is what I want to stress out- I am an old tango singer. Yes… I was born decades ago in Buenos Aires, I grew up listening to the great Carlos Gardel (I still remember the day my father suffered the death of “Thrush”) and then in his honor, I dedicated myself to singing. It is impossible to exceed the master (for that “he sings better every day”), but I must say that I did quite well: I was a singer of great orchestras, and from my youth, I managed to relate with the highest tango figures: Anibal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese, Enrique Santos Discepolo, Homero Manzi, Enrique Cadícamo, Cátulo Castillo, Roberto “Polaco” Goyeneche and Edmundo Rivero. Now, you may ask yourself “what is Roberto Hornos doing here, why is he writing all this in the blog of the RH chain..?” And the answer is: because I am the person who knows most about Buenos Aires! I know every corner of every neighborhood and I can tell you the details and useful tips for those coming to my city to fully enjoy it. So read: I am here to help you, “cantándole la justa” (telling you just the right and true thing) Therefore, bearing in mind that this is my first “post” (as the kids say), today I will speak about the arrival in Buenos Aires City. Upon your arrival at Ezeiza International Airport or at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, see the map Itinerary that Rochester Hotel offers to take the best path toward the center of the City. Tell the driver where to go, so he does not make you travel more than required without your consent. But if you feel like wanting to get lost through the streets of Buenos Aires, a good taxi driver can make you a great tour round the City. Better let me know and I will take you. See you here, in a few days? I will pick you up at the hotel, buddy. Roberto Hornos, Porteño. Argentine WinePost June 17, 2009 - Classified Knowing Buenos Aires, Rochester Argentine wine is an undeniable and irreplaceable element of the argentine gastronomy, native from the provinces of Mendoza and San Juan. Over time, the Argentine wine was placed among the best and most chosen wines in the world, therefore, its production spread to other provinces such as Salta, Catamarca and La Rioja, arriving later to Cordoba, Santa Fe, Neuquen, Chubut, Entre Rios, Buenos Aires and Rio Negro.
Argentines are known for being good consumers of wine, it is impossible to imagine a meal, lunch or dinner, without Wine. The traditional one among argentines is the red wine, rough, intense, with great body, perfect to accompany heavy foods such as meats, vegetables and meat stews and pasta. Other wines that standout are white wines and rosé wines, which should de served cold, that is why they are brought to the table in a bucket with crushed ice. They accompany lighter meals such as cold meats, fish and shellfish as they have not the great body of the red wine. Desserts are accompanied by champagne or sparklings. In an act of good faith a policeman from Salta returned $350.000 to its ownerPost May 30, 2009 - Classified News about Buenos Aires, Rochester On May 7th of this year, Francisco Solano Dávalos, police officer from Salta, who works as a security guard on the parking lot of a supermarket in Salta, married and father of eight kids, found a wallet with 50.000 pesos in cash and a check for $300.00. The first reaction was to search for documentation and then he informed the authorities of the supermarket. The woman, owner of the handbag with money, returned to the grocery store two hours later, when Dàvalos saw her he reassured the woman by telling her that he had found what she had lost. The woman gave him $100 in reward, which, at first the police officer refused to accept, arguing that the only thing he did is his work and fulfill his duty as a policeman. This honorable act by Mr. Francisco Solano Dávalos, was unknown until the supermarket manager, Ricardo Oviedo, informed the chief of infantry, Néstor Picolo, about what had happened. Dávalos received a recognition by the Secretary of Security from Salta. Events like this, where you can clearly see the honesty, dignity and good faith of the policeman Dávalos, are cases that should be taken as examples, be recognized and highlighted in this society in which these values are being forgotten. Rochester Hotel Supports these attitudes and promotes them as well, that is why it has given the Dávalos family a free stay at its Buenos Aires Hotels, from Friday May 29th to Sunday May 31st, to recognize and congratulate this admirable behaviour. |
