Puntas das Emerências: one of the most crowded places in Buzios, is found to the right of Tucuns beach. “Serra das Emerências” with typical and rare examples of Atlantic plants. In this region the almost extinct Golden Lion Monkeys can still be found and as amazing as it sounds, many Pau-Brasil trees. The mountain is characterized by little coastal clumps, where endemic species stand out, such as the cactus "Piloso Sereus Ulei". In places protected from the wind, where sand movement is less, vegetation develops more, bushes and trees predominate. The decree creating the Environmental Preservation Area (EPA) of the Pau-Brasil, protects six beaches and six islands from the coast of Cabo Frio and Buzios. That decree bans the cut downs, hunting, lotification, opening of mines and activities, at least for the next five years, period for the elaboration of a management plan of the EPA. Inside the EPA there are 12 thousand square meters of pau-brasil reservation, that is studied and monitored by a Botanical Garden in Rio. The protected area is around 14 areas of Brasil, considered rich in endemic vegetation and center of diversification of plants. From the 14 areas, only two are in Rio: the Atlantic Clump and the shore of Cabo Frio and Buzios.
