Puerto Madero

Puerto Madero. Places to visit in this luxurious neighborhood:

1. School of Fine Arts, Cárcova, Tristan Rodriguez Achával 1701
Where we find the Copy museum which exhibits reproductions of classic sculptures. It also, organizes workshops and classes for those wishing to learn about the art techniques. Furthermore, in  the inside of the museum works and excellent grill.

2. Fountain of the Nereids. Tristán Achaval Rodríguez 1600
Located initially at Avenida Leandro N Alem, and now found at the south riverside. Built in 1903 by Lola Mora, who was heavily criticized at first by this sculpture that represented the birth of the goddess Venus. Today this work is a National Heritage.

3. Ecological Reserve, Tristan Rodriguez Achával 1550
In 1986 it was declared area of Ecological Reserve by the Government. It has 350 hectares of grassland, alder, willow and several species of birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. It can be seen both day and night.

4. South Riverside, Azucena Villaflor and Tristan Achával Rodriguez
One of the most crowded and popular places in the city. In 1950 the popularity fell due to pollution of river. Today, after having been repaired, it once again gain its popularity but not with the fury of those old days.

5. Malecon Building, Dock 1
Tower of 12 floors, at its base there is a large shopping mall and the rest of their floors are offices and houses. The design was in charge of a prestigious firm of architects in the United States.

6. Church of Our Lady of Hope, Dock 2
Opened in 1996. The architects were Poli, Casano and Zubillaga. Belongs to the Argentine Coast.

7. Porteño Mill, Dock 2
Built in 1891 to produce flour and worked until 1956. It is considered national heritage.

8. Monument to tango, Dock 2

9. Molinos Building Rio de la Plata, Dock 3
Built in 1902, to facilitate the loading and unloading of goods arriving to the port of Buenos Aires.

10. Fragata Sarmiento Ship Museum, Dock 3
At the request of the Argentine government in 1898, was built in England this great ship. Functioned as one of the best and most prestigious school ships, making 39 trips across the seas.

11. Women bridge, Dock 3
Created by Santiago Calatrava, in honor to women. The building took 12 months until it was inaugurated in 2001. It is a bridge which rotates 90 degrees toallow ships to go through.

12. Monument to Christopher Columbus and Columbus Park, Avenida de la Rabida
Opened in 1921, during the centennial celebration of  the Argentina Independence. Work designed by the Italian Antonio Devoto and built by sculptor Analdo Zocchi.
Has a height of 6.25 meters an38 tons weight.
In 1955 when planes from the Navy bombed Plaza de Mayo, to overthrow Peron, the monument suffered several wounds of bullets, which you can still see in the monument.

13. Pavillon des Arts-UCA (Edif St. Mary of the Buenos Aires), Paseo Joan M. Gorriti 1300
400m2 with belonging to the Universidad Católica Argentina. Here are samples of art on display in Argentina.

14. Monumental Antenna or Mast of the Italians, and Italians Avenue Güemes
Place where Italians gather to perform their acts as it was donated by the Italian government, located in the middle of the square, with a copy of the winged lion of St. Mark in Venice.

15. Puerto Madero Station, Avenida Perón and Alicia Moreau de Justo
High-class trains, which link the port to the west of the city. They have air conditioning and functional music.

16. Corvette Museum Uruguay Ship, Dock 4
It was the school-ship of the Argentine navy between 1898-1961. Built by British yards, gained by Sarmiento. It is85 length and 13.3 meters wide. In 1901 it went to rescue a the Swedish expedition, the Antarctic, which sank and was trapped between the ice.

17. Yacht Club Puerto Madero, Dock 4
Opened in 1997. Built by Camper, an English builder. This Club offers luxury services such as electricity, drinking water, cable TV, cleaning, maintenance, repair and a boat floating clubhouse of 2000m2 and three floors.

18. Tourist Information Center, Dock 4
Tourist Information Center of the Government of Buenos Aires. Provides maps, guides and brochures in different languages.

19. Harbor Yacht Club Argentino, Dock 4
School of yachting

20. Bank Boston Building, 265 Della Paolera
Opened in 2005. It took 4 years to complete this work, which features a mural of 5.5 x12 meters at the entrance hall. Painting by Guillermo Roux.
