Rochester Hotel - classic

Tango consists on a binary form, theme and chorus, the lyrics are written in slang language(informal Spanish language), and it transmits experiences, sorrows, joys and stories of men and women of the village. Interpreted with an orchestra and the main and fundamental instrument, the bandoneon.
This dance is a very passionate and emotional that starts with the hug of the couple. It is an own musical style, characteristic of the cities of Buenos Aires, Rosario and Montevideo, of urban origin. Recognized and praised in the world, an international classic that you can fully appreciate and understand in Buenos Aires.
It is Inevitable not to drop a tear when you hear it far from Buenos Aires, inhabitants feel it as a part of them, it characterized them and tells their story.

We can say that Buenos Aires is the capital of tango, where in every corner we can hear this famous musical style, full of tango houses with live orchestras and dancers. The most prestigious sites offer dinner and show, where you can choose between argentine meat or international food.
On the other hand, we find the milongas, places where people dance the tango and practices. Here are individual or group classes, both beginners and advanced before the dance, which lasts one to two hours, and would ideally take between four to five classes. Both in the milongas as in cultural centers, the first thing you learn are the basic steps to dance and not stepping on your partner, in eight simple movements.

In the world of tango tehere are certain terms and basic concepts:
  • BANDONEON: Was created in Germany in 1835, is a wind instrument, portable, with keys or buttons and requires a suitable technique to play it. This was the one that gave the music of the Rio de la Plata its melancholic sound which today identifies tango.
  • PITCHING: Movement which consists on gently moving your head back and side, a way for men to invite a lady to dance without approaching.
  • LUNFARDO: is the speech of the suburbs, in the urban world. It expanded with the terms brought by immigrants during the second half of the nineteenth century. Then, partly thanks to the tango, lunfardo extended to everyday speaking.
  • MILONGA: Besides being a place where you dance tango, is one of the three rhythms of tango music, along with the waltz.
  • PRACTICE: place where tango is danced informally, an intermediate status between a class and a milonga.
  • REJECTION: being rejected after proposing an invitation to dance.
  • SANGUCHITO: figure formed when dancing tango, in which the man holds the woman´s left foot between his two, in a gesture of male containment.

At what time: it is important to bear in mind that if you want to dance comfortably, you must arrive early or leave very late, because the track is shared with many other couples.
What to bring: the following elements are indispensable when preparing the tango kit:
T-shirt or shirt (extra one to change), hairdressing (for editing), a pair of socks (extra one), make-up (for some tocuhes), dancing shoes (in a bag of shoes), shoes without heel (to rest), talcum powder for soles (in case the track does not slide far enough).
Men: How to get women to dance:
The milonguero can choose between two options:
- The pitch. Man and woman look at each other, only if the woman keeps looking, he moves his head slightly as an invitation.
- This method is more risky: the milonguero goes to table and invites the woman to dance.

Women: How to do to make men invite you to dance:
Above all we must get the appropriate shoes. Sit watching the dance floor with the legs towards the aisle, so that a man may stumble on your feet. This is how the encounter takes place, followed by an invitation to dance.
